Valentia Island Harbor Cruises on The Wild Atlantic Way

Our Valentia Island Island Harbor Cruise offers you an opportunity to relax and unwind as we guide you around the calm and tranquil waters that surround this stunning Island on The Wild Atlantic Way . You will expect to view the mysterious Begnish Island , with its local folklore and tales of vikings and ghosts and hear about Mug Ruith (or Mogh Roith, “slave of the wheel”) is a figure in Irish mythology, a powerful blind druid of Munster who lived on Valentia Island, County Kerry .

It is said that Mug Ruith who is also linked to Begnish Island was summoned by King Herod to cut The Head of St John The Baptist hence resulting in an alleged curse on Irish Peoples. On a happier note Beginish is host to a seal colony located in a cove on the southern part of the island named Casey’s landing, and has abundant bird and sea life. On the northern edge of the island is a series of basalt cliffs which have a hexagonal shape formed in a similar manner to the famous Giant’s Causeway.

Surrounding Beginish are other small islands, including Lamb Island to the north and Church Island to the east. Church Island is notable for having the remains of a monastic site with a holy well and shrine.

You will also see the site of the First Transatlantic Cable .The Telegraph or Longitude Field is in Foilhomurrum Bay on Valentia Island. It is historic site that marks the first form of international communication methods and arguably the founding technology for modern-day communications.
